Training is an integral part of who we are. We train our people and our customers to get the most out of their Automation System. People must fully understand how to operate the system so that it can perform at its highest level.
In order to ensure the system’s success, we train the facilities team and other staff members each time a project is completed. No matter how impressive the building automation system is, if no one knows how to use it, much of the value is wasted.
Upon completion of our initial owner training, HBT offers a maintenance contract along with ongoing employee training. Turnover among facility technicians can be high, but system knowledge is vital for the health of the building, so making sure that new employees are fully trained is essential.
HBT-101
HBT-101 is designed specifically for Alerton users who need to learn or refresh their knowledge on basic user skills and Alerton system functions. The course is designed around the Compass front-end software package and covers topics such as how to set up Compass software and user profiles, how to use the basic functions of Compass, and how to use the Alerton graphic user interface. After completion of the two-day course, users will have a full understanding of the capabilities of the Alerton system, be able to minimize emergency service calls, and maximize their investment in their building automation system. Costs and Registration Form

Hoffman Building Technologies provides ongoing internal training for all employees. This helps employees stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the construction industry. It also ensures that employees are knowledgeable and skilled enough to perform their duties effectively and efficiently. For our engineers, technicians, and others to provide superior service in our industry, they must stay at the top of their game.
Monthly Technician Training
Each month, we offer company-wide training on a specific topic that some of our technicians may be struggling with. We offer technicians the option of attending in person at our Greensboro headquarters or via webcam if they are out in the field or at a branch further away.
The Fast and Furious Training Program
Several technicians are selected each year to participate in specialized certification programs. For six months prior to being accepted into the program, these technicians must be mentored by a senior technician.
Our training program begins with an introduction to HVAC fundamentals, followed by classes on designing, developing, and commissioning Alerton systems. This course covers the basics of BACnet DDC and provides students with practical experience interpreting, modifying, and creating Alerton controls programming. For example, students will learn how to set up Alerton VLC controllers and configure their inputs and outputs. In addition, they will create graphical interfaces for monitoring and controlling the system.
Technicians who successfully complete this intensive training will become members of our elite Fast and Furious team of technicians.
